North Carolina’s Community Alternatives Program: Instructional & Technical Guide for Consumer-Direction

From the North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance, this guide provides information related to eligibility, services, and screening for the consumer-directed care program in North Carolina called the Community Alternatives Program (CAP). Included is a history of the CAP program in North Carolina and a description of the five principles of self determination:

  1. Freedom to lead a meaningful life in the community
  2. Authority over the use of public funds
  3. Support to organize resources in ways that are life-enhancing and meaningful
  4. Responsibility
  5. Confirmation of the important leadership role of the individual and his or her family

Also included is a comparison on how CAP Consumer-Direction differs from Traditional CAP in North Carolina.

Explanation of IDD Services and Supports

This is a brief description of intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) services and supports provided by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). Some services and supports have interest lists because they do not have immediate openings available. People who want particular services or supports should add their name to the appropriate interest list as soon as possible. People who are now receiving particular services or supports may add their names to the interest list for other services and supports.

Kansas I/DD Medical Assistance Program: Fee-for-Service Provider Manual

The Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Intellectual/Developmentally Disabled Mental Retardation or Other Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) program is designed to meet the needs of beneficiaries who would be institutionalized without these services.
