From the Supportive Housing Association (SHA) of New Jersey, this presentation was given in the Spring of 2013. Presenters included:
- Gail Levinson, Director, SHA of New Jersey
- Janel Winter, Director of Housing, New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities
- Gail Frizzell, Parent of Lauren Frizzel
The presentation describes the various supportive housing models available, from group homes to shared housing, even home ownership as possible options – with the goal of leading lives as independently as possible. A series of questions for parents or caregivers to use with an individual with a disability is outlined in order to start a conversation around supportive living options.
Lauren Frizzel’s personal story is shared as an example of answering the supportive living questions and how she received support through the process.
